BLOGWATCH: Here’s How Much Money United Way Donated to Planned Parenthood

By Maureen Collins Posted on: | August 31, 2018

Planned Parenthood received over $1.5 billion in taxpayer funds between 2013 and 2015. On top of that, it received money from numerous charities. Many of these nonprofit organizations you would not expect to contribute to the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Take United Way for an example. United Way is an umbrella organization with over 1,100 offices across the United States and funds several worthy causes. But recently, a study revealed that United Way affiliates have given money to Planned Parenthood.

United Way defended the donations in a statement posted on its website, arguing that “out of 1,129 local United Ways in the United States, only a small number (less than 3 percent) provide support for Planned Parenthood.” Ironically, Planned Parenthood has frequently made the same justification for receiving tax dollars: that abortions only make up about 3 percent of its business (in reality, it is much more than that).

Exactly how much money did United Way affiliates give to Planned Parenthood? According to 2ndVote, Planned Parenthood received over $2.7 million from United Way in 2016. Not exactly a small figure.

2ndVote calculated that $2.7 million would fund around 2,900 abortions. That is 2,900 people who will never get a chance to experience the joy of life. That is 2,900 lives snuffed out before they were even born. That is 5,800 parents who have lost a child.

When you think about it in terms of money, $2.7 million is certainly not a small number. But when you think about the loss of 2,900 lives to abortion, the cost is insurmountable. The abortion industry and its enablers like to hide behind statistics to justify their “business.” But each of us knows that every individual person is much more than a statistic and, therefore, every abortion is a great tragedy.

Large organizations may see millions of dollars as an insignificant amount of money. But no person, born or unborn, is insignificant.
