The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Denise Harle regarding the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit’s decision Tuesday upholding Texas’s temporary suspension of elective abortions during the COVID-19 crisis:

“Abortionists who seek to put their profit ahead of the well-being of women and staff who could be affected by COVID-19 shouldn’t be allowed to get away with their irresponsible demands. The 5th Circuit was on firm ground to ensure they didn’t in Texas. There’s no reason for the state to allow elective abortions to continue during the coronavirus crisis while all other elective surgeries—not to mention a vast array of other activities—are suspended for many good reasons. As we argued in a friend-of-the-court brief filed just yesterday regarding a similar executive order in Oklahoma, ‘The abortion industry is demanding special treatment not to save lives, but to end them.’ The courts ‘should not allow abortion businesses to drain critical medical resources from the front lines and flout social distancing requirements.’”
