Women Deserve Better than Abortion

Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses have made billions of dollars by marketing that the "services" they offer protect women. The truth? Their "services" harm women physically and psychologically.

Poor Healthcare Treatment for Women

Cases, inspections, and health citations all show a pattern of the abortion industry harming women.

Numerous abortion facilities have received citations for:

  • Using abortion pills after the expiration date.
  • Reusing unsanitary sponges for several days to clean instruments.
  • Failing to disinfect or remove blood stains from patient tables between abortions.
  • Employing abortionists who do not have admitting privileges at local hospitals and thus can’t provide adequate patient care when abortions go wrong.
  • Allowing frozen blood and fetal matter to build up in freezers.

The abortion industry drives down the standards for women’s healthcare.

"Webcam Abortions"
A callous, cost-cutting measure invented by the abortion industry to facilitate more abortions by eliminating in-person consultations. Via webcam, an abortionist would have a brief online "chat" with the mother and then press a remote button dispensing drugs that cause an abortion. If she has complications after taking the drugs, the woman has no doctor to turn to for help.

The Alliance at Work
Alliance Defending Freedom filed a brief on behalf of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists and other allies supporting new standards to eliminate risky webcam abortions.

Non-Physician Abortions
In some abortion centers, abortions are committed without an actual doctor in the room. The abortion industry fights against the idea of requiring licensed doctors to perform abortions because it means fewer abortions and less profit. But lowering the medical credentials for abortionists creates more risk for women.

Case: Planned Parenthood Arizona v. Horne
Alliance Defending Freedom and our allies successfully defended the Arizona Abortion Consent Act, which prohibits non-physicians from doing surgical abortions.

Cost-Cutting
The abortion industry would like to exempt itself from basic outpatient surgery requirements such as doctors having local hospital admitting privileges and regular facility inspections. Avoiding such standards means lower costs for the abortion center but puts women at risk.

Case: Choice v. Greenstein
Alliance Defending Freedom and the Louisiana Health Department won the fight to uphold a law requiring abortionists to meet basic health and safety regulations.

Abortion Physically Harms Women

Abortion puts a woman’s body at risk.

Keeping abortion legal does not protect women. Abortion certainly kills babies in the womb, but it can also lead to injury or death for the mother. Alliance Defending Freedom has assisted Allied Attorneys in litigating several such cases and will continue to protect the physical well-being of both mother and child.

Abortion can lead to premature birth in subsequent pregnancies. According to a report by the Charlotte Lozier Institute "a growing body of worldwide evidence suggests that the association between preterm birth and history of induced abortion is indeed credible."

Abortion Psychologically Harms Women

Study after study shows that mental suffering often accompanies aborting a child.

  • 13 Studies: Show the presence of a risk of mental disorder in the groups of women who had an abortion compared to those who went through with the birth.
  • 4 Studies: Found a higher risk for loss of self-esteem, anxiety disorders, depression, thoughts of suicide, and substance abuse in women who had abortions.
  • Over 45%: Of the women in various studies who had aborted a child suffered from some form of clinical depression and bipolar disorder.
  • 29 Studies: Found that even though the birth of an unplanned child is often traumatic, abortion seems to be even more traumatic.
