BLOGADF on Fox News: ABC Needs to Report Facts, Rather than Talking Points That Fit Their Agenda

By Sarah Kramer Posted on: | July 17, 2017

ADF Communications Director Kerri Kupec was on Fox News twice on Friday to discuss ABC’s sloppy journalism.

In case you didn’t hear, ABC took talking points directly from a Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) hit-piece calling Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) a “hate group” – neither giving ADF the chance to respond, nor reporting the facts on what ADF actually does.

“ABC News has committed journalistic malpractice,” said Kupec. “For ABC News to essentially cut and paste false charges against Alliance Defending Freedom by a radically left-wing, violence-inciting organization like Southern Poverty Law Center is a discredit to ABC News and to the profession. Americans’ trust in media is cratering, and the blatant bias and lack of professionalism that ABC attempted to pass off as news can only serve to confirm and intensify that distrust.”

ADF is a Christian legal organization that advocates for the right of all people to freely and peacefully live and work consistently with their faith – a freedom we should all be able to get behind. And ADF does not do this on a small scale, or off in the fringes. ADF is a respected and successful advocate at the United States Supreme Court, winning seven cases at the high court in the past seven years.

Last time I checked, that doesn’t fit the definition of a “hate group.” Yet, ABC didn’t bother to include any of this in their “reporting.”

Here’s what Kupec had to say on Fox News:

Decades ago, the SPLC used to do valuable work denouncing groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, but the SPLC now uses its resources to bully veterans, nuns, Catholics, Evangelicals, and even Muslims who are working against Islamic extremism. And, in the past, its “hate group” designation has been used to incite violence against people and organizations who hold reasonable viewpoints that oppose the radical, far-left ideology of the SPLC.

That’s certainly not a source that ABC should be cutting and pasting information from, without digging further. If they had done that, they might have seen that ADF is well-respected in the legal world for defending our foundational freedoms, such as religious freedom, freedom of conscience, and free speech for everyone.

It’s obvious that ABC couldn’t see past its own political agenda to report on the facts.
