In The News: Volume I, Issue 3
by Greg Scott, ADF National Media Relations Director

Despite the outrageous ruling in May from the California Supreme Court that redefined marriage in California – and the court’s refusal to rehear the case – the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) message on this issue was projected loud and clear worldwide in more than 5,000 print and online news sources, including Newsweek, US News and World Report and every major daily in the U.S.

Meanwhile, on the East Coast, New York Governor David Paterson ordered state agencies to recognize same-sex “marriages” performed in other states … and other countries. ADF promptly filed suit on behalf of several state legislators and other concerned New Yorkers, charging that the governor overstepped his executive authority. The lawsuit made national news, with stories appearing on Associated Press, on websites like The Bloomberg News, and in hundreds of major daily newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, and The New York Times.

On September 28 – “Pulpit Freedom Sunday” – pastors from 20 states took a bold first step toward reclaiming their First Amendment rights from unconstitutional Internal Revenue Service censorship … and hit a nerve nationwide. ADF attorneys have spoken the message of pastors’ freedom on National Public Radio (NPR), CNN, in feature stories in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and other heavyweight media outlets. The initiative was also the subject of a major story in Focus on the Family’s Citizen magazine.

Other ADF media highlights this summer included: an NPR “Morning Edition” feature and a live, hour-long NPR “Talk of the Nation” debate on the threat to Christian religious liberties posed by so-called “non-discrimination” policies and state “human rights” commissions; a touching interview on The Laura Ingraham Show with Jesse Ramirez, a man left for dead in a Phoenix-area hospice until ADF intervened to restore his food and water; and a lengthy ADF radio interview and profile on The Hugh Hewitt Show.
