BLOGStudents Are Free to Participate in “See You at the Pole”

By Sarah Kramer Posted on: | September 20, 2018

On Wednesday, September 26, students from across the country, and across the globe, will participate in the annual See You at the Pole (SYATP) event. Gathering around the flagpole before school, students will lead a time of prayer for their schools, fellow students, teachers, communities, governments, and countries.

We’ve increasingly seen the speech of Christian students being silenced at public schools. We’ve represented students that were told they cannot talk about their faith and pray during their free time at school, or that they cannot hand out fliers inviting their classmates to a church event.

On public university campuses, Christian students are told they cannot talk about their faith with other students – not even in the student union – and a mob shut down a conservative event just because they disagreed with the speaker’s point of view.

That’s why these students need prayer. They are taking a courageous and unpopular stand for their faith when they show up at their schools’ flagpoles in the morning to pray.

But that is also the reason we have hope. These students are an example to all Christians. They are not shying away from proclaiming their faith and praying in public. They are a testament that their faith trumps their popularity.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is dedicated to defending these students if they ever face opposition to their right to freely live out their faith. ADF has created a memo that explains the right of students to host a SYATP event. Refer to this memo for a summary of the legal rights these students have, such as the right to distribute fliers about the event outside of class time and the right to wear SYATP clothing.

If these rights are ever violated, know that you can reach out to ADF, and we may be able to provide FREE legal assistance.

Pray for these students and encourage yours to take part!
Encourage your students to participate in See You at the Pole and share their pictures and stories from the event with us on social media. Use the hashtags #SYATP and #SYATP2018. Be sure to thank them for their stand!
