Recently, at Alliance Defending Freedom, we sent out a survey to our Ministry Friends.
As it turns out, one of the questions really struck a nerve.
We asked those taking the survey to rate the importance of the following statement: “I’m concerned that I may face legal troubles for expressing my religious beliefs (or that it may happen to someone close to me).”
Of the Ministry Friends that completed the survey, 75.5 percent said that they viewed this as “very important” or “important.”
Here’s just some of what they had to say concerning their religious freedom:
“I feel it is extremely important that freedom of religion is upheld and that we continue to have the right to practice our faith.”
“My concerns are more for my children and grandchildren and threats they may face in the future regarding their religious freedom; our culture seems increasingly hostile to people of faith and their ability to live by and openly express their faith.”
“All American citizens deserve to expect the protections and rights provided by the Constitution of the United States of America, regardless of their faith. American citizens of Christian faith are actively being denied their rights in favor of a myriad of politically expedient special interests….”
I couldn’t have said it better myself. And I’m sure they’re not alone. I wouldn’t be surprised if you or other readers of our blog share these same concerns.
That’s why ADF is litigating cases at both the state and federal level, including two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court this term: Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission and National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra.
We want to create a culture that respects religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family. And we want to preserve our constitutional freedoms for you—and for generations to come. Because if any one of our personal liberties is threatened, that puts them all at risk.
That’s why we need your help. You are the ones that make it possible for us to do this work through your prayers and your generous financial support. Because of you, we are able to defend our clients free of charge, actively litigating to defend their freedoms – which in turn defends freedom for you, for me, for all of us.
Will you join with us to ensure that no American has to fear government punishment for living according to their religious beliefs?
