Between my passion for law and my husband’s career as an Army chaplain, I am acutely aware of the many issues in American culture that threaten the founding liberties and principles of this nation.
Because I attended public schools my whole life, however, I thought I was alone in the call to legally equip myself to engage our nation in crisis. Attending Areté Academy proved me wrong and encouraged my ambition to be His voice of truth.
Areté Academy was the conduit for this preparation in my own life. Areté Academy is a one-week program for college and university students and recent graduates that combines biblical worldview training with professional development. And last summer, God blessed me with the opportunity to be a part of it.
I believe that Areté Academy can be monumental in the lives of any young Christian who wants to take action for the sake of human flourishing.
Areté is not simply a series of lectures heard at a distance – it is much more engaging than that. We heard from a number of speakers on issues such as religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family. All speakers demonstrated a genuine concern for their topics and stayed after their lectures to engage any Areté participants with further conversation.
Besides being a great opportunity to connect with leading experts in their areas of study, Areté provided me with an opportunity to engage those who are taking action for the sake of human flourishing. These kinds of people inspired me to take action in my own context.
Though I grew up in a Christian household, Areté helped me to understand the corporate responsibility of the Church to be ambassadors of the Kingdom of God. We are here on a mission to be a beacon of light in a very dark place.
My passion for God’s grace and justice not only in our individual lives, but also in our nation, was reignited.
Attending the Areté Academy surrounded me with peers who, like me, saw the need for Christian love and justice in the world. Being around a community that truly cares for the flourishing of human society was not only motivating, it also provided much-needed spiritual nourishment. Areté Academy’s focus on personal spiritual disciplines has motivated me to dedicate habitual devotional and prayer time to God every morning. I will be maintaining this discipline as I prepare to enter law school this fall.
I’ve long known that God has given me a passion for justice. After wondering how I could put that passion into action, I crossed paths with Areté Academy. This program has equipped me for the future God has laid out for me, and I know it will do the same for many others.
