On this episode of Freedom Matters, Jon Scruggs, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) joined Matt and Kerri to discuss a lawsuit ADF filed in Arizona to challenge a Phoenix ordinance that forces two Christian artists to use their artistic talents to promote same-sex ceremonies despite their beliefs that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Jon explains why this ordinance is a problem:
“Our clients are forced to create offensive artwork from scratch and then disseminate it to other people…it’s the equivalent of the state coming into their art studio and hijacking their imaginations and their creativity.”
We also welcome Tyson Langhofer to talk about the ADF federal lawsuit against California State University Los Angeles
(CSULA) and several CSULA professors who tried to shut down conservative speaker Ben Shapiro's speech at a Young Americans for Freedom Free Speech Event on campus.
And, with the Zubik v. Burwell
decision on the books for a week, Matt and Kerri give insight beyond the quick reactions of those who wanted to write off the Supreme Court’s opinion as a punt. They also discuss why those who value the First Amendment should be praising the result.
