BLOGYour Support Gives Us the Ability to Defend People of Faith Like Barronelle Against the ACLU

By Sarah Kramer Posted on: | February 16, 2017

Today, the Washington Supreme Court ruled against Barronelle Stutzman, a 72-year-old grandmother and Washington floral artist, denying her the freedom to live and work according to her beliefs.

It is alarming to think that Barronelle, a small business owner and creative professional who loves and respects everyone who walks through her shop’s doors, stands to lose all she owns – her retirement, her life savings, her home. It’s all at risk simply because her long-time friend and customer asked her to create custom art for one event that violated her conscience.

This is a devastating loss, and Barronelle needs our prayers.

But this is not the end of the road. And the fight is not over. Alliance Defending Freedom will continue to stand with Barronelle by appealing this decision to the United States Supreme Court.

We’re up against the ACLU, who recently raised $24 million in just one weekend. History has shown us what they do with their money. Back in 2013, they filed a case against a humble grandmother and small-business owner, and then demanded legal fees that will financially devastate her. The legal fees alone can add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more.

It’s clear that the ACLU doesn’t stand for freedom. It uses government coercion to exact severe punishment on citizens if they stand up for their faith and their freedom.  They want to force religious belief out of the public square and compel people of faith to celebrate and promote messages and events that violate their convictions.

Freedom cannot survive in an atmosphere of coercion.

We need your help to defend not only Barronelle, but also the freedom of everyone who wishes to peacefully live their life consistently with their religious convictions.

Here are two ways you can help right now.

First, join us in lifting Barronelle up in prayer. The case has already taken a great physical and spiritual toll on her, but she is standing strong in the Lord.

Second, we need the resources to be able to fight the ACLU when they sue Barronelle and others who are peacefully living and working consistently with their faith.

We Need 1 Million People to Donate $24

If 1 million people show their support for Barronelle and stand with her by each providing a one-time gift of $24 dollars, we can match the funding that the ACLU recently received and ensure that we can continue to fight back against their legal attacks. And if we stand together, we can make a big impact. Will you stand with us?
