BLOGWhich Locker Room to Use, Boy’s or Girl’s? The Supreme Court Will Decide

By Bob Trent Posted on: | November 08, 2016

"They have never been a 13-year-old girl. It's a very sensitive age for a girl. I didn't think that my colleagues, some of them, quite understood."

- Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on her colleague’s comments regarding Safford Unified School District #1 v. Redding. The case involved a girl
who was asked to partially undress for a strip search in the office of the school nurse. The court decided the search was unconstitutional.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently decided to take up the question of student privacy in public schools. The court granted cert to G.G. v. Gloucester County School Board, a lawsuit challenging a Virginia school district’s policy of maintaining separate restrooms for members of each sex while providing individual, private facilities for students uncomfortable with using a facility that corresponds to their sex. In essence, the school did not want to allow boys into the girl’s locker rooms and shower areas.

Alliance Defending Freedom filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the Court on behalf of almost 9,000 concerned parents, students, grandparents, and community members, as well as more than 40 state family policy councils, all of whom support the school district’s policy that protects the privacy and dignity of every student on campus.

ADF Senior Counsel and Freedom Matters’ Supreme Court expert Jordan Lorence joins the show to discuss the case and how it may affect similar cases nationwide.

Also on this week’s episode of Freedom Matters, progressive social policies in Europe have influence on culture here in the US, none more troubling than physician assisted suicide. Belgium recently expanded euthanasia laws to include minors, with the first child euthanized just last month.

Now a group in Europe is fighting back against the alarming expansion of assisted suicide laws in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg. ADF International is advocating for the sanctity of life at every major European governmental institution and this week releases a series of videos showing the real danger of expanding assisted suicide laws.

Sophia Kuby is Director of EU Advocacy for ADF International. We had the opportunity to speak with her about a new campaign revealing the horrific impacts of these dangerous new laws.
