Not since it was legalized in 1973 has there been a better time to turn the tide on the culture of abortion in our country.
With now eight horrific videos published exposing Planned Parenthood’s cruel culture of abortion, the country is abuzz with campaigns to shut down the abortion giant - or at least the compelled support of it through our tax dollars. Americans have peered behind Planned Parenthood's closed doors and witnessed the atrocities they are committing against unborn children as well as their callous treatment of their mothers. Compassion and care have been unmasked to reveal the face of pure evil and America has finally “seen” the truth of what legalized abortion has become.
In America, conservative estimates of abortions number 58 million since it was legalized. These acts of barbarism are happening on our watch, while we’re called to be a city on the hill and the light of the world illuminating the darkness around us. Yet, the Christian church of America has turned a deaf ear to the plight of millions of unborn children and their families. We either ignore the issue entirely, or devote one Sunday a year to the topic of abortion. Likewise, we deny the message of grace and forgiveness to the men and women who have experienced abortion. Our silence and apathy have cost us dearly.
Thankfully, justice will be served and the atrocity of legalized abortion will not continue forever, but the current climate on the issue of abortion is the perfect catalyst to change our culture from death to life. And God wants to use us as his instruments of change as He has throughout history.
When the Jewish people began rebuilding the Jerusalem wall the workers began repairing the area around their own homes first and continued from there. Start in your homes, tell your family, tell your friends. Pray every day for an end to abortion in our country and throughout the world. Start a prayer group in your churches and implore God to change hearts and minds. Search out the ministries in your community who are reaching abortion vulnerable families with a message of hope, grace and forgiveness. Encourage and support them as they engage daily in the battle for the unborn and their families.
If you haven’t seen the videos, watch them. Your life will never be the same. Once you have seen them, you’re faced with a choice to shut out the cries of the unborn or stand up in their defense. The three thousand unborn children who face the same fate tomorrow need more than your horror and disbelief. They need you to act.
Love and compassion for the helpless reveal the heart of God. “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, 'But we knew nothing about this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?” (Proverbs 24:11-12).
If you have never engaged in the battle for life for the most vulnerable and helpless in our communities, now is the time. Working together, we can rebuild a culture of life in our country.
