If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already noticed our blog’s new look, launched along with our brand new website, ADFlegal.org. The full screen header image is hard to miss. And how do you like the wide, clean reading space?
You might also be coming from the “Speak Up University” or “Speak Up Church blogs.” Those sites, and all of the content, have been merged with Alliance Defending Freedom’s main blog, which used to be blog.alliancedefendingfreedom.org. Now, it’s all right here, at ADFlegal.org/blog.
Beyond the aesthetics and the new content, there are a few other changes you’ll want to explore.
Now it’s easy to navigate to our blog homepage, where you’ll find the most recent blog posts. In the sidebar, you can easily subscribe to get blog posts delivered straight to your email, and below that, you’ll see our most recent tweets.
If you’re looking for more posts of a particular topic, you can now see a list of posts by category by selecting the tabs at the top of the page: “Must Read,” which takes you to the homepage, “Religious Freedom,” “Marriage &Family,” “Life,” and a new category: “Culture.”
You may have already noticed the colorful overlays on the blog post images when you hover over them, but each color also corresponds to a category: Culture posts are orange, Marriage & Family are yellow, Religious Freedom is blue, and Life is green. This color-coding is consistent across the entire website, for all types of content, and serves as a visual guide to tell you what topic you’re about to read.
Here’s a feature we’re especially proud of: highlight any text, on any page, and share straight to Twitter, with a link back to the page. Try it by tweeting this:
Have you seen Alliance Defending Freedom's new website? Check out of the new features.
Social shareabilty was one of top priorities with the new website design. In addition to the highlight to share feature, you can also hover over the share buttons at the top right, and share to Facebook, Twitter, several other social media channels, and even email. You’ll find these share buttons across the site, making it easy to share any of our campaigns or client stories.
Scroll to the bottom of the post, and now, you’ll see the post author, with their photo, title, and Twitter handle.
One change that we’re not thrilled about, but couldn’t avoid, is that we had to remove comments from blog posts. Ultimately, we want our comment space to be a continuation of the conversation that begins with the blog post and a place for respectful debate and interaction. From a technical standpoint, we couldn’t integrate a commenting system that had the features we wanted by launch date, and we still have more work on our part to do to create a comment policy that allows for that respectful debate. So for now, we ask that you share your feedback on Facebook, or tweet us.
