Alliance Defending Freedom is a servant organization that provides the resources that will keep the door open for the spread of the Gospel through the legal defense of religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family.

Our Purpose

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building legal ministry that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.

Recognizing the need for a strong, coordinated legal defense against growing attacks on religious freedom, more than 30 prominent Christian leaders – including the late Dr. Bill Bright, the late Larry Burkett, Dr. James Dobson, the late Dr. D. James Kennedy, and the late Marlin Maddoux –launched Alliance Defending Freedom in 1994. Over the past 18 years, this unique legal ministry has brought together thousands of Christian attorneys and like-minded organizations to elevate legal efforts to protect religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family.

Alliance Defending Freedom has been blessed to take part in defending some of the most significant, precedent-setting cases threatening religious liberty. By God’s grace, Alliance Defending Freedom has been successful in nearly eight of every 10 cases litigated to conclusion.
